Objective: The Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) is brief behavioral screening questionnaire that can be completed by the parents and teachers of 4-16 years old and youngsters from 11 years old. The purpose of this study is to assess the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the SDQ (SDQ-Tur). Method: The questionnaires were administered to total of 501 parents and 514 adolescents drown from clinic and community samples. For concurrent validity both samples are asked to score Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL)/Youth Self Report (YSR) as well. Results: The results displayed that SDQ had a high internal consistency except the peer problem scale. SDQ-Tur and relevant CBCL/YSR subscales suggested that both questionnaires were highly correlated. Additionally, results of discriminative validity suggested that SDQ-Tur was able to distinguish between the community and the clinic samples similar to CBCL/YSR. Discussion: This study on Turkish population provides preliminary evidence of the psychometric qualities of the SDQ in Turkey. The Turkish SDQ was observed to be stable and reliable.
