(from the chapter) This chapter provides several methods for conducting a family assessment and summarizes key concepts and issues to consider in the evaluation of family systems. We review and summarize selected assessment for understanding families, as well as techniques for gathering information on families. Specifically, we briefly review standardized measures, interviewing techniques, family-task observations, graphic, problem-oriented, and specific methods for assessing family strengths. Finally, this chapter provides family assessment report illustrating the integration of multiple sources to create a family intervention plan from that information and how to move from assessment to intervention.
